E foi assim que tudo aconteceu / And that’s how everything happened

And as if in a blink of an eye, two weeks have already past since our Little Princess has arrived in the world!! And she gets better day after day!!! She is already breathing without any help, is using basic monitors, is being fed only with breast milk (via tube) and is already out of the incubator and is sleeping in a open cot!!!

She has already learning to breast feed and if everything goes well, she will be released within two to three weeks and we will be able to take our Little Princess home!!!

The video below is a summary......in a single music.......of how everything happened!! Since we found out we were pregnant until Amelie´s first week of life.

Desesperada, ela me acordou (as 07:00 da manhã), toda tremendo!!
But let’s go to how everything happened on “D” day: Sunday, 08/02, Andrea felt that feeling of “ops!....I wet myself in the bed!!”. She went to the toilet to finish the started business and saw that the colour was reddish !! Already freaked out, she woke me up (at 07:00 am), all shaky!! I jump from the bed, still a bit dizzy (Sunday!!! 07:00 am!!!), but the possibility was not even going through my mind!!! I called the Hospital (following all instruction that we had learned during the fell classes of “Birth and beyond” that we were still attending), informed the situation and they asked me to bring her over.

As we were still faaaar away from the expected date, we had absolutely nothing ready!!! I got the bag (that we had bought for this occasion and to leave it ready for the occasion), threw half-a-dozen stuff inside (of course…only the wrong staff!!) and we run to the hospital.

Even with the help of the GPS, I managed to get lost in the way to the hospital (Come on....SUNDAY !!! 07:30 am!!!), but at 08:00 we were already being attended by the midwives. They didn’t need much time to get to a conclusion and to inform what we were not expecting: “The water has broken!!!”

Even though the water had broken, the midwives told us they would try to postpone the labour in two to three weeks because, at this stage (almost 33 weeks of pregnancy), each day more inside would be an advantage for the Baby. Andrea was given an injection of steroids to accelerate the lungs development from the Baby but this would only kick in after a second shot and after three days. This has all happened before 10:00 am!!

Andrea was put in a room to rest and she received some pills to avoid contractions. At about noon, she started to feel uncomfortable (at 8 to 10 minutes intervals). At around 14:00 hours, things started to become nasty and in intervals of 5 minutes (and there I was, following all what I had learned and measuring each contraction!!!). At 16:00 we were transferred to the delivery suite, with Andrea already “seeing Stars” (and with my hand almost in a gangrene stage because of lack of blood due to Andrea’s strong grip!!)

As soon as we arrive at the delivery suite, the midwife checked Andrea, looked at us and said: “Remember what we have spoken about this morning, that we were going to try to hold the contractions and postpone the labour……well……its not going to happen!! Your baby will birth…..and it’s going to be now!!!” My heart bit went from 75 to 150 bpm!!! (Andrea was already with her hearth almost going out through her mouth!! There was not much for her!!!)

There was no much time left for anything. Not even for anaesthesia!!! The only thing that Andrea used was gas, but that was only useful for here to use the mouthpiece to bite on!!! At 17:00 h, Andrea was already crossing the pain barrier and getting to a trance stage!!! And at 17:14 hours, the midwife screamed to me: “ Come on Daddy…..reach with your hands to grab your little Daughter because she is coming now!!”……and it was at that moment that the world stopped to me……and it was my turn to get in trance. And in less then a moment, our little Princess was in my hands…..so small….all wet…all soft, almost like a jelly!!!!! End from that moment until now…..there is nothing that can get this silly smile off my face!!!!!

I put our little Princess in my Queen’s hands, cut her umbilical cord that was connecting them and it what like this that I started to show the world to little Amelie

Foi tudo muito rápido e muito intenso!!! Uma experiência única.
Everything was too fast and too intense!! A unique experience.
