36 hours!!!!!! 36 HOURS!!!!! This was the total travel time we had to go through from Pokhara (in Nepal) to Agra, where we did our first stop in India. We had to get two buses (with lots of horning and loud videos showing Hindi movies in the highest volume!!!), a jeep ride and two other trains!!! And from that, summing up all the waiting time to commute each transport, eight hours!!! After this initial marathon, I don’t need to say how much we needed some holiday!!!
Our only reason to stop at Agra was to visit the Taj Mahal and then carryon, as soon as possible, but as it turned out, we arrived there in the wrong day. We got there on a Thursday night and the Taj is closed to the public every Friday. We had to spend one extra day, but at the end, it was really convenient, because we needed some rest after all that marathon. And we ended up giving in to a good Pizza Hut!!!!!!
To not lose the extra day we had to spend in Agra, we visited the Agra Fort, built in the 15th century. The building details are interesting, but the really best was to observe the crowds of Indians tourists (specially the women) walking around, with dresses of every color!! And we also ended up becoming a tourist attraction, because many Indians tourists came and ask to take pictures with us!!(Or they might have mistaken us with someone!!!)
One of the interesting facts about this fort is that it held the emperor Shah Jahan as prisoner, who spent his last days in one of the towers with view to the mausoleum that he had built to his wife, the Taj Mahal.
E finalmente chegou o grande momento!!!! And finally the great moment had arrived!!! On the second day in Agra, right in the morning, we went for our visit to the Taj Mahal. It can be a tourist cliché, but this is an attraction no to be missed in India. The building’s majesty and symmetry, the marble details, the Coram verses written in Arabic, the gardens, all of this make this monument to love a real wonder.
Unfortunately, this is another place with the big sing “no pictures allowed” inside, but the most interesting is the outside visual anyway. Inside are only the sarcofagoes of Mumtaz Mahal (at the center) and her husban, Shah Jahan.
From Agra, we carried on to the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Nothing more then a huge city with the best of the mess, dirt, noise and stress that India has to offer. We visited the “pink City”, that are nothing more them a bunch of old walls painted in orange, apart only from the Palace (panoramic photo), where some of the family members of the last Maharaja still lives.
Still in the state of Rajasthan, we visited a small town called Pushkar, next to the desert. The city is holy to the Hindu people and because of that the consumption of meat or alcohol are forbidden over there. The main attractions were the Ghats around the lake (Ghats are the steps in the shore of a holy river or lake where the Hindu people shower to get purified). At every night there was a kind of religious fest going on in the streets of the town.
After Pushkar, we went straight to Mumbai. As we knew that it would be just another big city, we planed everything to spend as less time as possible over there. We spend one day strolling around, just waiting for our flight out.

Our flight couldn’t have come in a best time. We couldn’t stand that place any longer and we left been sure of something: by free-will, India…..never more!!!
E finalmente....ferias de verdade!!!! Tailandia....ai vamos nos!!!!!!!!!!!!
