Férias no Reino do Sião / Holiday in the Kingdon of Sian

And finally, we arriver in Thailand, the place we were longing to have some holiday after so much traveling. And we arrived in real party time, right in the middle of the Buddhist New Year celebration. Bangkok was under a big water war in all the main streets, and we could not get ride of all he water, not even with the backpacks in our backs (there was no way to escape because we had to pass through the mass in the picture).
To not lose time, right in the first day in Bangkok we manage to get a bus straight to Phuket (at least it was what they told us in the travel agency when they sold the ticket, but the trip that should last not more then 12 hours was made in 18 because the dam bus went hopping everywhere and we also had to commute 3 other times!!!!!!.........it happens!!!)

We spent one night in one of the beaches in Phuket island and in the very next day we board into a liveaboard dive trip through the Similan and Surin National Parks in the west coast of Thailand (in the Andaman Sea, one of the best region to dive in the world).
It was a total of six days onboard with the following itinerary: dive, breakfast, dive, lunch, dive, afternoon snack, dive, dinner, sleep, dive, breakfast…….and so one!!
At the end of the trip, from the 22 dives planed, we could both could only do 20. At some points, we were so tired that was hard even to open the eyes.
Each dive overcame the previous in visibility (at an average of 20 to 30 m), beauty, fauna and flora diversity and the best was the water temperature: around 30°C (completely deferent from the 20°C we were used in Brazil).
Already in the second dive of the first day, at the very end of the dive (during the safety stop), we got lucky!!! A huge manta ray, with at least 5 meters from tip to tip (and that’s not fisherman story!!!) appeared and stayed surrounding us for more then 10 minutes (the manta ray are very curious and if you don’t chase them, they came very close especially because of the bubbles). In one of the three passages the manta made close to us, she was at no more then 2 meters from my nose!!! I can assure that this was one of the best experiences I had in my life!!! I came back to the boat with less then 10 bar in the cylinder (as a precaution rule, we are suppose to be in the boat with 40 bars left……but….it was a manta!!!!!)
After the liveaboard, we spent a couple of days enjoying some beaches, resting from the diving marathon and of course….day in day out, enjoying a good Thai massage!!! First in the Khao Lak village (for whom remember, it was one of the most affected area when the Tsunami happened, but today without any sign of the tragedy) and after, in the east cost, at Ko Samui and Ko Tao islands.
To not get sick of so many beaches, we went from Ko Samui in a day trip to the Ang Thong National Marine Park, where we spent the day kayaking through the caves and tunnels in some of the island. Some scenes from the move “The Beach” were also shouted in this park, using spatially the Green Lagoon (panoramic picture). This lagoon communicates with the ocean only through some submerged galleries.
From Ko Samui, we carried on to the small island of Ko Tao, another diving paradise (due to the big amount of dive site close to the island). We spent 10 days relaxing, enjoying a sunset after the other, getting a massage every couple of days…..!!!! And with all that sun and heat….I could not bear anymore….after almost 6 months, I finally let the seizer take my curls away!!!!!!!!

And once again, to not get sick of so many beaches, we went to other 3 day trips to dive around Ko Tao.
From Ko Tao, we returned to Bangkok. We left the island in a Catamaran/Speedboat in one of the most dreadful boat trip we have ever done so far!! 1 ½ hours of pure horror!!! The sea was rough and the boat went in full speed, bumping like crazy and bringing our stomachs up and down, from the feet to the head!!! It would take just a little longer until we put our breakfast out.

In our last days in Thailand, we visited the Grand Palace and the Floating Market in the surround of Bangkok. The heat didn’t let us do much around the city and besides, we where also not in the mood to visit more temples and other turistics spots.

Agora sim começa o nosso maior desafio.
