We arriver in Beijing and were also received at the airport, now from Dirk, with whom we spent the next 5 days around there.
Our first impression was that the whole city was under construction. A total mess. We could not even imagine that the Olympics will be there, still this year. And to make it worst, in this time of the year comes a sand storm from the desert, giving a gray look to the sky.
On of the first attraction that we visit there was the Tian’amen Square (famous because of the protest made by Chinese students), an enormous area where around it are some museums, monuments and also the mausoleum with Mao-Tsetung’s body in exhibition. Some people say that today there is only a wax doll instead of a real body, but it looks pretty real to us!!!
Also close to this square is the entrance gate to the “Forbidden City”, with the huge picture from “Uncle Mao”. Visit the Forbidden City was like doing a trip back in time, in the Chine still dominated by the Ming and Quin Dynasties. Inside this complex of antique palaces and temples are many peaces and old clothes (including the armoire used by the old soldiers), giving a good idea about how was to leave in a place like that back in the 15th century.

But our best moment in Chine was definitely the visit to the Great Wall. A really impressive work, especially considering the time when it was built. We de a 4 hours walk throughout 10 km over the wall, passing through 26 towers in the way.
Something that also impressed us was that, although the Chinese people are relatively small, the steps in the wall are twice the size of a normal step!! And that end up ruining both of my knees!!!!!
Also in Beijing, we visit the Summer Palace (where the royal family used to run to when the temperatures went up) and also some old neighborhoods in the town, with its alley and a life stile from the beginning of the century.
From Beijing, we flew to Hong-Kong, where we spent only two days walking around the city. A city totally different from Beijing, with a visual pollution that can not be founded anywhere else.
Something nice there was the light and sound show in the Victoria Harbor, in front of the Hong-Kong Island. All the buildings where with the lights on and, with many different light effects, they precisely followed the music rhythm.
